My name is Austin Birks. I wanted to kick this blog off for several reasons:

Firstly, I have been diagnosed with bowel cancer for the second time in a year. If the truth be told, I was very lucky to survive cancer last year. I was weeks away from meeting my maker. Then the amazing NHS stepped in and after emergency surgery and 13 doses of chemo, I got the all clear in July 2019.

Then in October 2019, it came back with a vengeance, and now I am about to undergo more chemo and surgery. It might work it might not, but I will give it my best efforts, and live to my martial arts mantra of “Never Give Up, Never Give In”.

This blog is about my journey, not just with cancer, but with life in general. It is designed to be honest, funny, sobering, but most of all, I hope, a journey of one person living with this disease but living life to the full, and why would not you?
